Let’s just get this out of the way first; nobody is born a leader. It is because you have to work your way to the top. You need to learn to accommodate your team members, delegating tasks and engaging them with you.
The bottom line: it is a very hard process which takes time and efforts.
When it comes to leadership in small businesses or startups, they either lack the experience or are just not playing their cards right. It could be due to incompetent management, poor communication or ineffective policy.
To make your leadership more effective, we’ve write tips that will make you become a more focused, motivated and dedicated company leader:
What you will read in this post:
1. Work Harder
It is clear that if you and your team can’t get the right results with the current work rate and standards, then you are going to have to pull out an extra gear. Don’t just try to look for better results, but THE best results.
Encourage your team to give in more time and effort into their tasks and ensure that things turn for the better.
2. Go For The Pygmalion Effect
They say money makes the world go round, and in a way that does apply in some aspects of our life. However, this notion does not work in every case.
When it comes to motivating people around you, money or any other material things have no actual gain. Instead, there is a lot more benefit to the table by using praises instead of cash.
To many, this method is viewed as counterintuitive as most members of the workforce society get around by using some type of incentive or motivator to increase our happiness.
Like how your salary increases for doing a good job. In some ways, employees receive a bonus from their employers. That’s the real deal that employees look for.
3. Avoid Calorie Time
There is a time when you spend hours doing something but then you realize later that it was all for nothing. This is known as calorie time because it bears no fruits to your organization.
Leaders are very careful in using their mental calories.
As in, they do not waste their mental potential by performing menial activities. The reason why we find ourselves around empty calorie activities is because:
- We’re too tired to do anything productive
- We are bored
- We want to stop working but are too guilty to take a real break
- We procrastinate from a task that we hate.
4. Set Concrete Goals
How can you opt for something in which you are uncertain of its outcome in the future? The best leaders log a great deal of time and efforts into setting their business’s goals and ambitions.
The ones who do this are relatively happier than the ones who have low or no expectations. To put simply, you need to have a plan.
5. Indulge In Self-Talk
Normally, talking to yourself could seem like a weird habit, especially when you do it in front of others. But when leaders do it, they are pretty much reflecting on their present skills, results, and methods.
It is found that the most effective kind of self-talk is instructional self-talk. This is applied especially when we want to complete a challenging activity or duty. An example of this would be when you want to complete a difficult report at work.
However, just simply repeating in your head that you want more sales this year will not do any good for you. You need to put your thoughts into action to make it happen.
Your instructional self-talk wants you to open up PowerPoint, find a title image, and make a chart on the recent statistics.
Researchers believe that this is effective in battling distractions and enables us to remain logical with our tasks.
